Definition

Use of parallel processing and specialized hardware to solve complex computational problems requiring significant processing power.

Real-World Example

High Performance Computing clusters help scientists simulate climate change effects by running millions of calculations simultaneously.

Cloud Provider Equivalencies

All four options help you deploy and run HPC workloads on cloud infrastructure. AWS ParallelCluster and Azure CycleCloud focus on creating and managing schedulers and clusters (often Slurm/PBS) on their clouds. Google Cloud Batch is a managed batch scheduler that runs large-scale parallel jobs on GCP compute. OCI HPC solutions are reference architectures and services optimized for tightly coupled HPC (including fast networking and bare metal) rather than a single “cluster manager” product.
